Packaging, Marking, Transport and Storage for Battery Scraps (Draft for Comments)
Abstract
This document applies to the storage and transport of scraps and waste components generated from lead-acid, nickel-metal hydride, nickel-cadmium, lithium-ion, sodium-ion and primary batteries during production, use and disposal. It does not apply to intact batteries, modules and battery system products assessed as suitable for direct reuse. It classifies battery scraps by battery chemistry, physical form and safety and environmental risk, requiring segregated storage, marking, impermeable measures, fire protection and monitoring for different battery types and risk levels. Specific requirements are set for isolation, discharge, insulation and temperature control of lithium battery scraps. Transporters shall select vehicles, packaging and sealing methods by category, prohibit mixed loading, and implement loading restraint, route risk avoidance, inspection and emergency management.
