Fire Hazard Testing for Electric and Electronic Products—Part 50: Glowing/Hot-Wire Based Test Methods—Fire Containment Test on Finished Units
Abstract
This document specifies basic test methods using a glowing wire or hot wire as an ignition source to evaluate the fire containment performance of finished units of electric and electronic products. It is used to assess the ability of products to limit the spread of flames, glowing particles and combustion products outside the unit when internal components catch fire or experience thermal faults. It applies to the design, manufacture, testing and certification of electric and electronic equipment and finished units. Relevant entities shall conduct fire containment tests in accordance with the specified test conditions, specimen configurations and assessment criteria, and evaluate the fire containment performance of finished units based on the results. This document is identical to IEC TS 60695-2-21:2023.
