Abstract

This document applies to laboratory bioassays of resistance in Musca domestica to insecticides including organophosphates, carbamates, pyrethroids and neonicotinoids. It specifies test insects at adult and larval stages, reagents, equipment, and test conditions such as temperature, humidity and photoperiod, and provides the susceptible baseline method and diagnostic-dose method. The susceptible baseline method includes residual film, topical application and diet incorporation methods, and determines resistance levels by comparing LC50 or LD50 values. Under the diagnostic-dose method, a population is determined to be resistant where mortality or corrected mortality is below 80%; requirements for control-mortality correction and test validity are also specified.
