Guidelines for Handling, Storage, Management, Utilisation and Disposal of Reject Water and Discarded Element Generated from Domestic Water Purification System and Commercial Water Purification System

The Guidelines apply to reverse-osmosis reject water and discarded elements generated by domestic and commercial water purification systems. Manufacturers shall improve product recyclability and the use of recycled materials in product design, avoid halogenated plastics, and manage discarded elements in accordance with the rules on plastic waste, e-waste, and hazardous and other wastes. Users shall explore and adopt the maximum possible use of reject water at the point of use; reject water that cannot be utilised shall be discharged into sewerage systems leading to terminal sewage treatment plants. The Guidelines also describe the conditions for the use of ultrafiltration, nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, and ion-exchange systems.
