Guidelines for Special Equipment Renewal Assessment—Part 8: Stationary Pressure Vessels

This document applies to renewal assessments of in-service metal stationary pressure vessels with defects or exceeding their design service life. Pressure vessel users and assessment bodies shall conduct document review, operating-condition investigation, historical inspection review, defect detection, defect analysis and safety assessment, and prepare an assessment report. Vessels shall be renewed immediately where safety valves, rupture discs, emergency shut-off devices or quick-opening door interlocks are missing or ineffective; where production was unlicensed, the vessel has been eliminated or scrapped; where accident hazards remain unaddressed; or where required supervision inspection was not conducted or failed. Assessment conclusions may recommend continued use, monitored use, time-limited renewal or immediate renewal.
