Biological Toxicity for Pollutants from Marine Petroleum Exploration and Exploitation—Part 2: Test Method (Draft for Comments)
Abstract
This draft applies to biological toxicity testing of pollutants such as drilling fluids, base fluids and produced water generated during marine petroleum exploration and exploitation, for use by offshore petroleum enterprises, marine environmental monitoring bodies and third-party testing laboratories. It specifies requirements for sample collection, transport and storage, selection and quality control of test organisms, reagents and equipment, preliminary and definitive tests, calculation of results, validity determination, test reports and laboratory waste disposal. The revision proposes to optimize the composition of test organisms, require the use of two or more categories of organisms, add rapid test methods including larval fish feeding inhibition and sea urchin fertilization tests, and strengthen quality control for reference toxicants, samples, data and original records.
