Plastics—Carbon and Environmental Footprint of Biobased Plastics—Part 4: Environmental (Total) Footprint (Life Cycle Assessment)
Abstract
This standard applies to life cycle assessment of the environmental (total) footprint of biobased plastic products and provides a methodological basis for plastic and plastic-product manufacturers, assessment bodies, and relevant users to quantify, assess, and report environmental footprints. It is identical to ISO 22526-4:2023 and specifies requirements for principles, goal and scope definition, life cycle inventory analysis, impact assessment, interpretation of results, and reporting, covering life cycle stages from raw material acquisition and production to use and end-of-life treatment. Assessments should define the functional unit, system boundary, data quality, and allocation methods, and interpret and transparently disclose environmental impact results.
