Powder Metallurgy—Hot Isostatic Pressing—Determination of Argon Content—Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Methods (Draft for Comments)
Abstract
This standard applies to the determination of argon content in metal powder products densified by hot isostatic pressing and does not apply to products manufactured by additive manufacturing processes. It specifies the detection principles, equipment and reagent requirements, calibration and functionality tests, specimen preparation, test procedures, and reporting requirements for gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The argon detection limit of the equipment shall not exceed 0.02 μg/g; calibration and functionality tests using blank and reference specimens shall be completed before testing. Service providers shall sample, clean, weigh, and melt-test specimens as specified, and provide purchasers with reports containing product identification, result determination, test date, and equipment and laboratory identification.
