Pure Argon, High-Purity Argon and Ultra-High-Purity Argon

This standard applies to gaseous and liquid pure argon, high-purity argon and ultra-high-purity argon separated from air by cryogenic processes, or extracted and purified from ammonia synthesis tail gas, metal-powder production tail gas and polysilicon-industry tail gas. It specifies argon purity and limits for hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, methane, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, moisture and total impurities; no moisture limit is specified for liquid argon. It also sets requirements for sampling, purity calculation, inspection, marking, labelling, accompanying documents, packaging, filling, transport and storage. Producers and operators shall prevent asphyxiation, frostbite and hazards from rapid vaporization of heated liquid argon, maintain ventilation, provide leak emergency equipment, and dispose of waste chemicals and contaminated packaging as required.
