Recycling and Waste Reduction (Export—Waste Plastic) Rules 2021 (2026 Consolidated Revised Version)
Abstract
The Rules apply to persons and businesses exporting regulated waste plastic from Australia, including waste plastic and processed engineered fuel. Exporters must apply for and maintain a waste plastic export licence, demonstrating that the material proposed for export meets prescribed specifications, export conditions and destination processing requirements. Licences may be subject to conditions and may be renewed, suspended or revoked. Applicants for exemptions must provide prescribed information, and the Minister determines whether to grant an exemption having regard to statutory matters. Licence holders must notify the CEO of specified events, comply with directions, and make, retain and not alter records relating to exports and compliance. The Rules also prescribe circumstances in which a relevant Commonwealth liability is taken to have been paid.
