SDS Data Exchange Format
Abstract
This format applies to system developers and entities that provide, receive, or use safety data sheet (SDS) information exchanged among companies in the supply chain. It organizes SDS basic information and 16 sections of data—including chemical and company identification, hazards, composition, emergency measures, handling and storage, exposure controls, physical and chemical properties, toxicology, ecological effects, disposal, transport, and applicable legislation—using a JSON schema compliant with JIS Z 7253:2019. SDS information for each chemical or product should be recorded in one JSON file, while the original SDS, such as a PDF, must also be provided; structured data are supplementary information only. All fields are optional. Information not defined by the format or difficult to transmit in the prescribed format may be entered freely in AdditionalInfo; where no valid value exists, deletion of the field rather than output of an empty string is recommended.
