Ships and Marine Technology—Fibre-reinforced Plastic Gratings (Draft for Comments)
Abstract
This document applies to the design, manufacture and inspection of self-supporting fibre-reinforced plastic gratings used for walkways and platforms on ships or offshore installations, and excludes relevant facilities in accommodation, service and control spaces. It specifies classifications for moulded and pultruded gratings and requirements for appearance, load-bearing capacity, corrosion resistance, skid resistance, flame spread, smoke and toxicity, antistatic properties, fire integrity, UV resistance and asbestos-free materials, as well as testing, marking, packaging and transport. Gratings used in hazardous areas shall have antistatic properties. For use in LNG/LPG tanks, fuel tanks, oil tanks or chemical storage tanks, manufacturers shall demonstrate fitness for intended use and ensure that performance is not impaired and cargo is not contaminated.
