Technical Specification for Lightning Protection of Alcohol-Based Liquid Fuel for Civil Use

This document applies to the design, construction, inspection and maintenance of lightning protection systems for newly built, renovated and expanded civil alcohol-based liquid fuel storage and distribution stations, filling stations and retail supply stations. Relevant sites shall implement integrated protection measures, including air termination, current diversion, grounding, shielding, equipotential bonding, proper wiring and surge protection, taking account of lightning activity, process flows and explosive atmospheres. Lightning protection systems shall be designed, constructed and put into operation simultaneously with the main works. Various grounding systems at stations should share a common grounding system; where no special requirement applies, grounding resistance shall not exceed 4 Ω. Operators shall establish lightning safety management systems and install safety signs. The document also specifies lightning protection design requirements for buildings, outdoor installations and electrical/electronic systems, as well as requirements for inspection, maintenance and material specifications.
