Sealant Material in Terrestrial Photovoltaic (PV) Modules—Silicone Sealant (Draft for Comments)

This standard applies to silicone sealants used in crystalline-silicon and thin-film terrestrial PV modules, excluding sealants for PV modules with concentrators. It classifies products into three types for frame and junction-box bonding/sealing, mounting-bracket bonding/fixing, and junction-box potting. It specifies requirements for appearance, extrudability or viscosity, working life, tack-free and gel times, mechanical properties, insulation and dielectric strength, thermal conductivity, flame resistance, HAI, CTI, adhesion, and performance after damp-heat, thermal-cycling and humidity-freeze ageing, and limits hazardous substances. Manufacturers shall conduct factory inspection and type inspection at least annually, and comply with marking, transport and storage requirements.
