Test Method for Leachability of Low- and Intermediate-Level Solidified Radioactive Waste Forms (Draft for Comments)

This document applies to the comparison and evaluation of the leach resistance of low- and intermediate-level solidified radioactive waste forms under controlled laboratory conditions, for use by nuclear facility operators, waste treatment and disposal entities, and testing institutions in conducting waste-form performance testing. It specifies requirements for the environment, temperature, leachants, containers, sample preparation, leachant replacement, treatment of solid materials and containers, data processing, and reporting for standard leach tests, and provides a non-mandatory short-term leach test method. The revision proposes deleting sample requirements for asphalt and plastic waste forms; adding requirements on principles, test conditions, reagents and materials, precision and measurement uncertainty; and improving provisions on leachate treatment, leaching periods, and reporting of result curves.
