Textiles—Determination of perfluorinated and polyfluorinated compounds—Part 3: Combustion-ion chromatography method
Abstract
This document applies to all types of textiles and specifies a method for determining extractable organic fluorine in textiles using an online combustion-ion chromatography system. Samples are ultrasonically extracted with tetrahydrofuran, concentrated and brought to volume, adsorbed on activated carbon, and combusted under oxygen-rich high-temperature hydrolysis conditions. Combustion products are absorbed and converted into fluoride ions, which are quantified by ion chromatography with conductivity detection using an external standard method. The standard specifies requirements for reagents, apparatus, sample preparation, blank tests, result calculation and reporting. The limit of quantification for extractable organic fluorine is 5.0 mg/kg, and precision requirements for repeat determinations in a laboratory are specified.
