Abstract

This standard applies to fish-waste marine dumping activities conducted in waters under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China. Fish waste other than shellfish processing waste shall be disposed of through non-marine-dumping methods such as resource recovery. Proposed shellfish processing waste for dumping shall be managed according to organic matter, lead and cadmium results: waste meeting the organic-matter limit shall be crushed; waste not tested for organic matter or failing that limit but meeting lead and cadmium limits shall be cooked and crushed; dumping is prohibited where either heavy metal exceeds its limit. Limits for organic matter, lead and cadmium are 5%, 60 mg/kg and 0.50 mg/kg, respectively. Cooking shall be at least 90°C for 5 minutes, crushed particle size shall not exceed 25 mm, and prescribed sampling, testing and quality control shall be followed.
