Except for exempted materials and components, each homogeneous material shall contain no more than 0.1% by mass of lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls or polybrominated diphenyl ethers, and no more than 0.01% cadmium. The annex specifies exemption scopes and periods for alloys, batteries, solders, anticorrosive coatings, lamps and other items. Unlisted items may apply for exemption on grounds of technical substitution, safety, use and maintenance, service life or cost.
